IRGC Strikes Kurdish Opposition Bases in Iraq
According to Iran's official news agency, the IRGC disclosed the operation through its official social media channel, stating that the headquarters of what it characterized as terrorist groups in Sulaymaniyah had been targeted. The statement offered no details on the specific groups struck, the weaponry deployed, or any casualties and damage sustained in the attack.
Sulaymaniyah province, nestled within Iraq's Kurdistan region, serves as a base for several Iranian Kurdish opposition organizations that Tehran has long accused of orchestrating attacks and stoking internal unrest inside Iran.
The strike landed hours after Iran unleashed several waves of missile barrages toward northern Israel — a retaliatory response to an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs, which Tel Aviv asserted had targeted a Hezbollah command and planning center. That Israeli strike claimed two lives and left 11 others wounded, according to preliminary figures.
Sunday's Iranian missile assault on Israel marked the first such bombardment since a fragile ceasefire took hold in early April — a truce that had already been straining under mounting disputes over its implementation and a series of destabilizing regional developments.
Israeli officials have since signaled that Tel Aviv is actively preparing a retaliatory response to the Iranian missile attack, raising fears of a further, potentially uncontrollable escalation across an already deeply fractured region.
